Getting Started with Google Android

I took my first steps in my sabbatical today with a Google Android video series available on the the Google Android site. As a person who has done quite a bit of programming across multiple platforms, I am struck with the openness of the product design and other products used to make the environment (Linux, SQLite, etc.) and also the reusable and component design of the application development. This is a shift or I should say a next step from what I have been using in the .Net and Java development environments.

The first video "Androidology" covered the internal and review the architect of the Google Android product and how parts of the architecture would be used by those developing applications for Android enabled devices. You can see an Android demo video. This is not only very impressive from a graphics standpoint this seems to have all of the power of navigation and ease of use of the iPhone.

The last video in the series is on developing Android applications. A programmers demo if you will that will walk you through the typical "hello world" application in Android.

I am very excited about this product and can see it having allot of potential for apps in the classroom using mobile devices.
